My rating: 3 of 5 stars
I was really anticipated for this read. When I read the premise, a Faerie world, with a lot of politics going on. The main character is a human, who is being kidnapped and brought to this Faerie world at a such a young. Trying to fit into the Fair Folks. Also, there is a love-hate relationship with this prince. It is everything which I thought I am gonna love.
My first and the biggest problem with this book is the narration style. Jude is an extremely untrustworthy person, and I don't wanna witness the story from her perspective. The politics in this book takes a good turn, but again the same thing. Seeing it from Jude's eyes makes it boring.
And c'mon I want to see what is happening on the other side too!
I saw the plot twist coming, like I said before Jude being highly unfaithful towards anything, can't expect anything else from her.
The intriguing thing about this read is that throughout the entire plot, not a single character is genuine. At a point, you will realize each and every one starting from Jude's 7 year old brother Oak to Prince Dain. Everyone is selfish and has some motives to harm others behind their deeds.
An Unpopular Opinion. Cardan is not a bad guy. I didn't see the point of framing him as a "bad guy" where he barely does anything. He was merely a bully. All the harsh actions against Jude, her twin sister and other mortals were done by his friends. In fact, his character also has a very less role to play. His part only started getting higlighted in the 2nd part of the book, that is after Chapter 20 (there are 30 chapters in total xD).
Cardan as a main love interest has very less personality. The only two C's I know about Cardan is:
1. He's Charming.
2. He's Clever.
And that's it.
Please, don't get me started on the romance part.
I can see myself liking the book if it wasn't that overhyped. I hope the series gets better with the 2nd book.
