The story follows a sharp-witted woman who does a handjob and some petty astrometry to meet her ends. One fine evening, she comes across a mysterious wealthy woman, named Susan Burke who claims there is something eerie in her Victorian home. Considering this offer as a source to earn a handful of bucks, our unnamed narrator visits Susan's house. This leads her to discover petrifying series of events related to the Carterhook's mansion.

The Grownup is a short story written by Gillian Flynn, which lurks the brain. The characters are intriguing enough completely entangling the reader with their thought process, with the provision of a vulnerable idea, "whom to believe". The plot unfolds in a very uncanny way and with uncertainties, forcing the readers to come up with an explanation,  for whatever happening!
